With a strong sports and coaching background, I have always been passionate about health and wellness and supporting others. However, like many people, my plans were thrown a bit off course in 2020. I became a support worker where I saw just how many barriers are still present to people with disabilities. As a qualified PT, my aim is to make fitness more fun and more accessible to all in the social care industry.
As a support worker in a residential home, I've seen first hand how the pandemic and common barriers have effected resident's health and wellness. Facilities and opportunities have dwindled, mind sets have changed, and generic gyms and classes do not cater specifically to people with disabilities and the impacts are clear.
When your job is to care for others, it is so easy to over look your own health and wellness. Not to mention the lack of time and energy that comes with it. I feel very strongly about making exercise more accessible and enjoyable for staff while also making their own physical and mental health a priority.
